Welcome to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Horseshoe Crab Home Page. Here you will find information on horseshoe crab biology and history, the horseshoe crab's important role in the Chesapeake Bay and coastal bays ecosystems, and its significance as a commercially valuable resource.
You can get involved with horseshoe crabs!  If you are interested in helping DNR learn more about horseshoe crabs and contributing to our management of this important species, you can assist with DNR's annual beach survey of spawning horseshoe crabs.  DNR coordinates this volunteer survey in conjunction with several other states to determine when and where horseshoe crabs are spawning.  If you are interested in helping out with the survey, click here.
