The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) in conjunction with the Oyster Recovery Partnership (ORP) and the Maryland Watermen’s Association (MWA) are conducting a Derelict Gear Retrieval Project beginning in mid-March. The funds are being made available as part of a three year Federal Crab Disaster grant from NOAA.
The program is intended to support active, commercial watermen throughout Maryland who were directly impacted as a result of the weather events in the summer of 2011. Weather depending, we anticipate the work period to begin in mid-March and go to mid-April 2012
Derelict Gear Retrieval Project Overview:
As planned, the project will collect derelict crab traps using a long line with grappling hooks from North East, Fairlee Creek, West/Rhode/South /Severn/Magothy Rivers, Patapsco River/Hart-Miller Island, Patuxent River, Lower Hooper Island, Upper Tangier Sound (Crisfield), Big Annemessex River and Little Annemessex River (Adjacent to Smith Island).
Deadline for Submission: 11:59 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2012 (applications received after this date will not be accepted or be considered)
