PUBLIC NOTICE
MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
FISHERIES SERVICE
AMERICAN SHAD PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Service will hold a public hearing to discuss American shad management on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 6pm at the Tawes State Office Building, 580 Taylor Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21404. All interested parties are invited to attend and provide comments. Sign language interpreters and other appropriate accommodations will be provided upon request.

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission has released the Public Information Document (PID) for Amendment 3 to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Shad and River Herring for public review and comment. This is the initial step in developing an amendment to the Commission’s Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Shad and River Herring.

Findings from the 2007 Benchmark American Shad Stock Assessment noted that Atlantic coast stocks were not recovering in spite of extensive management restrictions and restoration efforts. Many of these stocks are at all-time lows. Biological Information dealing with Atlantic coast stocks of American shad including those in Maryland will be presented along with the PID.
