The Secretary of Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announces that the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) will close the commercial spiny dogfish fishery effective 12:01 a.m., August 20, 2008. NMFS has determined that the commercial spiny dogfish fishery quota for Period 1 has been harvested.
Vessels issued Federal permits for spiny dogfish may not fish for, possess, transfer, or land any spiny dogfish until 12:01am on November 1, 2008, at which time the Period 2 quota for the 2008 fishing year becomes available. No vessels may fish for, possess, transfer, or land spiny dogfish, whether caught in state or Federal waters.
