The Secretary of Maryland Department of Natural Resources pursuant to Code of Maryland Regulation 08.02.15.12(H) has announced closure of the 2009 striped bass commercial gill net fishery, effective 3 a.m. Friday, January 16th. The January quota is projected to be harvested by this time. The striped bass gill net fishery will re-open February 2, 2009 with a 400 pound per permitted fisherman per day landing limit.

Fishermen are reminded that the days of Sunday February, 22, 2009 and Saturday February 28, 2009 are open to the taking of striped bass by gill net (COMAR 08.02.15.07) . The Chesapeake Bay striped bass gill net season ends at 6:00 pm February 28, 2009 and will reopen December 1, 2009. The Secretary may close the season if the quota is projected to be caught by a certain date.
