The Secretary of Maryland Department of Natural Resources, pursuant to Code of Maryland Regulations 08.02.05.12E, announced a reduction in the bycatch allowance for commercial vessels harvesting summer flounder in the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Effective at 12:01 am Sunday, May 24, 2009, the bycatch allowance for landing summer flounder is reduced to 25 pounds per licensed individual per day. Atlantic harvest on a 2009 Maryland Summer Flounder Landing Permit remains unaffected.
