Mirant LogoMirant is a power company with aquaculture facilities at their Patuxent River Chalk Point Generating station in Aquasco, Maryland. Mirants Environmental Group has cooperated with Maryland DNR since the striped bass restoration efforts of 1980s. They provide extensive grow out facilities, a full staff and supplies to assist in American shad, hickory shad, yellow perch and Atlantic sturgeon culture. Exelon LogoExelon (URL: http://www.exeloncorp.com/) is the parent company of Susquehanna Electric, which operates the Conowingo Dam Hydroelectric Station. The company operates two fish lifts at the dam to allow American shad to continue their spawning run up the Susquehanna River. Additionally, the company supports all DNR efforts to collect brood fish and data at their Fisherman's Park. The states of Delaware and Maryland are conducting a cooperative shad restoration effort on the Nanticoke River. Delaware and Maryland also cooperate in Atlantic sturgeon restoration projects. The University of Maryland operates several units that are cooperating in various aspects of our restoration programs. The Center for Environmental Science Chesapeake Biological Laboratory has cooperated in larval shad research. The Center for Environmental Science Horn Point Laboratory is cooperating in yellow perch restoration and Atlantic sturgeon research. The Center of Marine Biotechnology is working with the program to develop and refine techniques for spawning shad through hormonal stimulation.
