G. Martin of Cumberland, Maryland broke the first State record of the year on
May 20, 2000. He exceeded the previous cutthroat trout State record of 5 pounds
5 ounces by 2 pounds 4 ounces. His trout weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces and measured
28.75 inches in length with a 14.5-inch girth. Martin was fishing in the Barnum
area of the North Branch of the Potomac with rod rigged with 4-pound test and
a Rapala.
