On April 4, 2002 Lawrence Rush broke a 23-year State record when he caught a
14.5-inch, 2 lb. 10 oz. crappie with a 13 inch girth. He was using ultra-light
tackle on 4-pound test line with a 1.5-inch white curly-tail grub at Swan Creek
near Fort Washington. The crappie was checked in at Holiday Sports in Temple
Hills and positively identified by Maryland Department of Natural Resources
(DNR) Fisheries Service biologist, Tim Groves.
