Don Lorden | 613 lbs. | 06/13/2003 | Baltimore, MD resident, Don Lorden, broke the Maryland Atlantic division state record for a thresher shark on Friday, June 13, 2003. The 44 year old was fishing his 22nd year in the annual Ocean City Shark Tournament when he hooked and landed the 613 pound thresher shark. He battled the 14.75 foot shark with a 68 inch girth for 2.5-3 hours using a 50 pound class rod rigged with 80 pound test line while fishing just east of the Jackspot from his 25 foot Proline, "Wizzy". Also on board the boat were George Lorden (his dad), Dave Guinto, and Frank Gaither who holds the current mako shark state record. |
| Donnie Simmons | 585 lbs. | 06/04/1999 | Donnie Simmons of Annapolis, MD established the thresher shark state record for the Atlantic division. Simmons landed the 585 lb. thresher on June 4, 1999 while fishing the 20th Annual Ocean City Shark Tournament. The shark was 15 feet, 11 inches and was caught using a whole false albacore.
