Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)

Homeowners

If you are a homeowner and think you may have an ash tree, here are some basic steps to consider:

  1. Contact a Maryland Licensed Tree Expert to help you identify and assess your trees. Click here for more information about Licensed Tree Experts, including listings in your county.

  2. Determine if you’d like to save your tree. The most effective treatments, trunk injections with emamectin benzoate, are conducted by licensed pesticide applicators.

  3. Remove infested trees that you are not going to treat. Hire a Maryland Licensed Tree Expert when having any tree work done. Contact your local utility company before managing ash trees near utilities.

  4. Replant with new species. Coupons are available for purchasing a new tree through the Marylanders Plant Trees program.
