Sustainable Forest Initiative

The American Forest and Paper Industry established the Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI) in the mid-1990s to improve practices of the industrial forest industry. Principles and Standards for Sustainable Forestry developed at SFI’s conception are reviewed and improved constantly to better address issues of sustainability.

The principles and standards are similar to the Criteria and Indicators of the Montréal process.
