Coastal Plain Province
[Coastal Plain Province]

The Coastal Plain Province is recognized by flat or gently rolling topography and elevations rising from sea level to about 100 feet. Coastal Plain marshes and swampy tidal flats surround the Chesapeake Bay. Sands, sandy loams, and silt loams resulting from sea deposits make up the soils of the Coastal Plain. The climate is mild and sometimes rainy, similar to that found further south.
