Threats to Forest Health
Today the greatest threats to Maryland's forest resources are:
  • Changes in land use, and forest
  • Fragmentation and parcellization;
  • Poor management decisions and improper implementation of management practices;
  • Native and introduced insects, diseases, and plants; and
  • Other factors, such as browsing by deer, wildland fire, air pollution including ozone, acidic deposition, and unusual weather events.
