Goals & Objectives
The overall goal of this project is to implement a suite of forestry Best Management Practices on a small watershed on Sugarloaf Mountain, and to evaluate the effectiveness of these BMPs in protecting water quality. Specific objectives of this project include:
(1) Calculate baseline suspended sediment concentrations/loads and baseline biotic conditions (temperature, benthic macroinvertebrates, habitat) for both the treatment and control watersheds;
(2) Install a BMP system on harvest sites within the treatment watershed;
(3) Calculate suspended sediment concentrations and loads resulting from harvest operations in the treatment watershed, and evaluate the impact on living resources;
(4) Evaluate the efficiency of individual BMPs via on-site inspections during and/or immediately following storm events.
