- Put fire place ashes in metal container; soak with water. Do not dump in exposed pile.
- Make sure your car's fuel and ignition systems are operating properly.
- Properly dispose of old newspapers, oil rags and rubbish.
- Hang light directly from ceiling, not over nail.
- Store gasoline in an approved safety can.
- Fuel tank should be far enough from building for valves to be shut off in case of fire.
- Kitchen flue should extend 3' above roof.
- Store matches in a covered box out of reach of children.
- Keep flammable curtains away from stove.
- Disconnect iron and store in a safe place.
- Cleaning fluid - keep in well-ventilated place away from heat.
- Keep flamable material away from wall heaters.
- Don't smoke in bed.
- Install lightning protectors on telephone line.
- Do not bridge fuses at fuse box.
- Vent pipe of water heater should rise above the roof.
- Keep water heater clear of flammable material.
- Water tap should be farther from building in case of fire. Have enough hose to reach all buildings.
- Keep matches and lighters away from children.
- Cover incinerator with mesh screen. Keep clear 10-foot area around incinerator and a safe distance from from structures.
- Replace frayed light cords. Never put cords under rugs.
- Vent gas heaters and check conditions of hoses and connectors.
- Use fireplace fender and screen to prevent sparks from escaping.
- Remove rubbish from attic.
- Cover chimney outlet with 1/2" screen spark arrestor.
- Keep tree branches away from flue.
- Keep roof and gutters clear of leaves and debris.
- Be sure TV antenna is properly installed. Keep guy wire tight. Use lightning arrestors.
- Install service line safely and properly.
- Have power company clear branches from electric lines.
