Chesapeake Bay Watershed

The Chesapeake Bay is probably Marylandís most famous and most beloved natural feature. As shown in this map, Marylandís portion of the Bay watershed is relatively small is comparison to the contributions of Virginia, Pennsylvania, and even New York State. However, far and away the majority of the Stateís land area is included in the watershed of the Bay, with small portions of the state draining to the Ohio River System, the Atlantic Coastal Bays, and the Delaware River. Thus for the past several decades, the Chesapeake Bay and its problems have been a primary focus for much of the Stateís environmental and natural resource policy and action.
