2018 Maryland Land Conservation Conference

The Maryland Land Conservation Conference is the largest gathering of its kind in the state of Maryland. This annual conference brings together land trusts, conservancies, local and state government agencies, heritage organizations, members of the agricultural community and other partners for a comprehensive discussion about the future of land conservation in our region.

Requests for Proposals Now Open

Maryland Environmental Trust invites you to submit a proposal for the 2018 Maryland Land Conservation Conference. Completed proposals are due by Wednesday, January 31, 2018; and should be submitted using the online form available through this link.

Concurrent sessions are split into multiple tracks. At this time, workshops will either be 75 or 90 minutes in length and will take place in ‘classroom style’ breakout room. Lightning Talks require a PowerPoint presentation and each presentation is limited to 5 minutes. Presenters will be equipped with the following supplies: PC laptop, projector, screen and podium. Conference themes and topics include:

ENGAGING THE NEXT GENERATION OF CONSERVATION STEWARDS
This path explores the importance of engaging the next generation of stewards. Proposals should include program examples from conservation service corps; training and employment opportunities; and how to build service learning partnerships with land trusts.
THE LEGAL END OF STEWARDSHIP
This path will reflect on the importance of stewardship and ongoing care of our protected lands. Topics may include: amendments, legal defense and protection, lessons from recent tax cases; landowner relationships; etc.
WHO CONSERVES THE LAND
This path will highlight the stories of the people devoted to the programs and properties that protect land, water and community resources throughout Maryland.
LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZATION
This path will focus on essential tools, techniques and development strategies to strengthen organizational capacity and to sustain leadership roles.
LIGHTNING TALKS
The theme for this year’s blitz is: Celebrating Successful Conservation Initiatives and Partnerships. This is your chance to showcase recent projects, programs or accomplishments.
OTHER
Examples of other call topics include: utilizing new tools and technology; land and water initiatives; regional or innovative partnerships; other themes relevant to today’s conservation community.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES AND DEADLINES

  • No more than 4 individuals can present on a panel or workshop. We strive to have a combination of interactive sessions and lecture-style presentation. Please be sure to include time for questions and discussion.
  • Notification of proposal status will be sent in February 2018.
  • If selected, all speaker and workshop details must be submitted no later than COB on April 16, 2018.
  • Speakers agree to grant permission to MET for hard copy and online distribution of presentation materials.
  • To help keep conference costs affordable, MET does not pay honoraria, travel, per diem or other costs for conference speakers.
  • You are welcome to submit more than one proposal (but need to submit separate proposals).
