Wildlife Enforcement

Maryland’s has a rich history in hunting, and has an estimated 84 species of mammals, 85 species of reptiles and amphibians and 233 species of birds. The States diverse wildlife affords numerous opportunities for hunters and trappers. The Chesapeake Bay region is known around the country as one of the premier locations for hunting migratory birds such as ducks and geese. Maryland’s woodlands abound with deer, turkey and bear.

The Natural Resources Police (NRP) is charged with enforcing the laws and regulations that protect these wildlife species. Officers ensure that Maryland hunters are legally harvesting game during the designated season. Additionally, officers protect life and property by enforcing the regulations that relate to safe hunting practices.
