NRP Canine Unit (K-9)

The primary purpose of the Maryland Natural Resources Police Canine Unit is to provide specialized resources (canines) to assist field officers, allied agencies, and the citizens of the state with specialized capabilities in support of the Departments mission, through utilization during daily patrols and resource inspections, or in targeted enforcement efforts, such as search warrants, specialized enforcement activities, searches for missing persons, and body recovery efforts. The Canine Unit can be utilized for the following capabilities.

  • Detecting concealed wildlife or fish.
  • Tracking violators.
  • Locating-missing persons.
  • Area searches for evidence recovery.
  • Cadaver detection.
  • Public relations events.
