Entry Rules
Calling all amateurs, professionals and student photographers: Enter your photos of Maryland’s rich natural and recreational resources – water, wildlife, farms, fields, parks, animals, insects, forests and protected areas into the 2011 Maryland Natural Resource Photo Contest for a chance to win some terrific prizes! Sponsored by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, contest winners will have their photos published in the Maryland Natural Resource magazine as well as the 2012 Maryland Natural Resource Calendar.
The contest is open to all photographers except for employees of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Public Television, and their immediate families.
- Photo entries must be postmarked by August 31, 2011 to be considered. Entries postmarked after this time will be returned. Winners will be Announced on Friday, September 16 on the DNR website, www.dnr.maryland.gov.
- Photos will be judged in 6 categories:
- Birds: Maryland offers over 350 species to choose from.
- Wildlife: Mammals, reptiles, birds, fish, you decide!
- Insects: Bugs, bugs and more bugs.
- Scenic: Maryland’s spectacular landscape.
- Flora: Wild-growing plants, including flowers, leaves, fruits and all other cool looking parts.
- People enjoying State Parks: Highlighting Maryland’s State Parks from hiking to kayaking, cross-country skiing, to fly-fishing, camping to free climbing to canoeing and shell or fossil-collecting.
- All pictures must be original photographs and must have been taken within the past two years.
- Previously published photos or parts thereof, are not eligible.
- Eligible formats include 5” x 7” to 8” x 10” color or black and white prints only. No slides, transparencies or digital submissions. Digital photos may be submitted in print form only.
- Photos should not be matted, mounted or framed.
- An entry fee of $10 for up to three photos with $3 for each additional entry beyond three. There is no limit to the number of photos that may be submitted by any photographer.
- Each photo entered in the contest must be labeled on the reverse side of the photo print with name and address of photographer, category and photo number to correspond with the contest entry form. Photos that do not include a category will be assigned one by the DNR staff.
- All photos must be described on the single contest entry form, which accompanies the entries.
- Judges will make selections based on the quality, composition, content, originality, uniqueness, creativity, mass appeal, and reproductive quality. Judges’ decisions are final and in their sole and absolute discretion.
- This offer is void where prohibited by law.
- DNR is not responsible for lost or misdirected entries.
- DNR reserves the right to publish all entries.
