The scenic Pocomoke River is the setting for the Pocomoke River State Park, Shad Landing, and Milburn Landing areas.
Shad Landing is on the south side of the Pocomoke River off Route 113. Milburn Landing is on the north side of the river on Route 364. It is a 25 minute drive between the two areas of Pocomoke River State Park.
Located within the 15,000 wooded acres of Pocomoke State Forest in the Southwestern section of Worcester County the park provides a base for a vast array of outdoor and tourist activities. The forest is famous for its stand of loblolly pine and for its cypress swamps which border the wild and scenic Pocomoke River. Pocomoke means black water, and there is good fishing in these waters. The river originates in the Great Cypress Swamp in Delaware and flows southwesterly 45 miles to the Chesapeake Bay.
The park's combination of swamp and upland offers visitors the opportunity to view a great variety of plant and animal life, including white dogwood and pink laurel in the spring, river otters and bald eagles, and over 50 species of fish.
Pocomoke River State Park offers boat launch, boat rental, camp fire programs, camp sites, park store, dump station, food & beverage, fishing, flat water canoeing, hiking trails, electrical hook ups, picnic areas, playgrounds, picnic shelters, swimming pool, and nature center.
Local attractions include: Assateague and Chincoteague islands. NASA’s Wallops Island visitors center, the Delmarva Discovery Center, Furnace Town, and the historic towns of Pocomoke City, Snow Hill, and Berlin.
How to get to Pocomoke River State Park
The park is located along the banks of the Pocomoke River and is divided into two sections. The Shad Landing area is 3.5 miles south of Snow Hill near RT. 113. The Milburn Landing area is 7 miles northeast of Pocomoke City via RT. 364 or RT. 12.

Pets are allowed in Pocomoke River State Park in the following areas:

- Shad Landing - Pets are allowed in the marina day-use area, including the boat ramp area to board vessels. Pets are allowed in the Acorn Trail Area camping loop. Pets are allowed in day-use areas after Labor Day to Memorial Day weekend.

With the new OPERATION: CAMPOUT! Program, we can lend you gear free of charge (includes a tent, chairs, stove, lantern and more). This program is designed for military individuals and military families new to camping or experienced campers stationed or recovering in this area. OPERATION: CAMPOUT! is an opportunity for families to reconnect with each other and the great outdoors in a comfortable, safe and relaxing setting.
Campsites have picnic tables and fire pits. Some sites have electric hook-ups. Restrooms and shower facilities are nearby.

The Shad Landing Marina has 23 boat slips with water and electrical hookups, launching ramp, lighted dock area and a fuel and transient pier. Rowboats, electric boats, canoes and kayaks may be rented. Ethanol free unleaded fuel and a pump out station are available. Milburn Landing has a launching ramp, pier, and soft landing for hand launched vessels.
The Pocomoke River and nearby creeks are available for fishing. A Chesapeake Bay Sports Fishing License is required to fish the Pocomoke River and nearby creeks. A "Fish for Fun" pond is located across from the marina parking lot and requires a freshwater license. The pond is part of Maryland's "Put and Take" trout program. A trout stamp is required to possess trout.
Camping at Shad Landing
Camper Registration is located at the Shad Landing camp store. Pocomoke River State Park has 175 campsites. The camp loops at Robins Nest, Acorn Trail and Waters Edge remain open for winter camping. All campsites are equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Centrally located washhouses have hot water showers, flush toilets and a laundry tub. All types of camping units are welcome. Some campsites have electric hookups. Sites are limited to six persons per site and all camping units must fit on the camping pad and driveway. Campsites are limited to two vehicles per site. Additional parking is available at parking lots located at the marina. All vehicles must be registered for overnights stays.
Camping at Milburn Landing
Milburn Landing is operated remotely from Shad Landing. Campers must self register at the office upon arrival. Milburn Landing has 32 campsites, some with electric. Amenities are limited at Milburn Landing and pets are allowed in the campground. A dump station is available. Youth Group Camping
Two Youth Group Camping sites are available at both Shad Landing and Milburn Landing. These primitive sites are available to groups as large as 40. The Shad Landing site is equipped with pit toilets. The Milburn Site utilizes the campground bathhouse or day use comfort station. Advance reservations are required for all youth groups. There is a $3.00 per person per night service charge for youth groups lacking a current Maryland DNR Youth Group Pass.
Group sites are located within the Blue Heron camp loop. Sites are equipped with a large fire ring, benches, picnic tables, hammock stands and group grill. Occupants must park in designated parking areas. Two sites are designed to accommodate 40 people and one site accommodates 20.
Milburn Landing and Shad Landing have picnic areas with tables, grills, playground equipment, and comfort stations.
Picnic Pavilions are available for rent at both areas. Alcohol is only permitted at Pavilions rented with a valid permit that can be purchased at the time of reservation.
Permission to use amplified music or public address systems, inflatables, rides, or exceed the capacity of the shelter must be obtained at least 30 days prior to the event. Requests for waivers must be made in writing to the Assistant Park Manager Pocomoke River State Park 3461 Worcester Hwy, Snow Hill MD 21863 or fax 410-632-2914.
- Shad Landing Pavilions - Two large pavilions (180 person capacity) with fireplaces, grills and picnic tables are available for rent. There is also a Small Pavilion (50 Person Capacity) located in the sports field area. All Pavilions are available by advance reservation. Reservation fees cover the rental of the pavilion and not the surrounding area which is on a first come, first served basis. Arrival time is after 8 a.m. and departure is at sunset.
- Milburn Landing Pavilions - Two pavilions are available for rent by advance reservations. Reservation fees cover the rental of the pavilion and not the surrounding area which is on a first come, first served basis. The Mattaponi Pavilion has a seating capacity of 50; and the Nassawango Pavilion has a seating capacity of 75. Both shelters have views of the Pocomoke River, and the Nassawango Pavilion is located near the park's recycled tire playground. Arrival time is after 8 a.m. and departure is at sunset.
The park store is located at the Shad Landing marina is the hub of park activity. The store offers souvenirs, camping supplies, firewood, ice, bait and limited groceries. There is also deli service at the store offering fresh baked pizza, subs, sandwiches and hand dipped ice cream. There is an air conditioned dining area, and laundry room. The park store operates daily from May 1 – September 30 and weekends in April, October and November.
Boat Rentals are operated by the camp store staff. Canoes, Kayaks and electric boats make getting up close and personal with Corkers Creek and the Pocomoke Cypress Swamp an experience of a lifetime. Several small outboard powered John boats are also available for taking a fishing trip on the Pocomoke River.

The Shad Landing Pool is perfect for a cool dip on a hot summer day. The Olympic size pool operates Wednesday through Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from mid June through Labor Day. The pool is staffed by certified life guards and has a snack bar with sodas, water, hot dogs and ice cream.
The fee for pool use is $4 for campers and $6 for day users, per person per day. Punch passes are available for groups and visitors wanting to frequent the pool.
Youth groups can reserve space at the pool by making a reservation for Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The charge for youth groups with reservations is $3 per person per day.

The Nature Center at Pocomoke River State Park is a must see. The facility houses interactive exhibits and tanks containing reptiles, amphibians and fish native to the Pocomoke River area. The Nature Center is open weekends in May and September and daily Memorial Day through Labor Day. Be sure to complete the Nature Center scavenger hunt, you will be surprised by what you learn.
Park Ranger and Naturalists offer nature programs and guided canoe/kayak trips throughout the year. Program offering can be found in the Pocomoke Paddler, and advertised at the camp store.

Pocomoke State Forest
The Pocomoke State Forest consists of 15,000 acres. The forest is famous for its stands of loblolly pine trees and Cypress swamps that border the Pocomoke River. Five areas within the forest, including the Cypress Swamps bordering the Pocomoke, are designated Wildlands Areas. In Pocomoke State Forest visitors can enjoy the following activities: fishing, flat water canoeing, hiking trail, hunting, and mountain biking trails.
