Fair Hill Pipeline Project Overview - Alert!
Fair Hill is a 5,656 acre Natural Resources Management Area, where multiple management practices are employed for the maximum use and protection of Maryland's natural resources. Bordered by Pennsylvania to the north and less than one half mile west of Delaware, Fair Hill is known for its pristine fields, woodlands and natural beauty. At one time one of the largest private land holdings in the East, Fair Hill was formerly owned by William duPont, Jr., an avid equestrian rider who acquired the farmland as a means to enjoy riding as well as fox chasing. Fair Hill was purchased by the state in 1975 from Mr. duPont's estate.
On May 16, 2018, the Board of Public Works unanimously approved a Maryland Department of Natural Resources item that will authorize $1 million for design improvement services at Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area in anticipation of the Cecil County site hosting a newly-designated, international equestrian event.
The venue is slated to become only one of seven sites to host a premier 4-star or 5-star three-day eventing competition.
The proposed improvements at Fair Hill, which will likely be phased in over the next few years, will update and upgrade the state park’s facilities, infrastructure and related needs. The investments are essential for the site to host major equine events and other recreational opportunities, and necessary for Maryland to maintain its unique status as an equestrian epicenter.
