Stream Waders volunteers will help to fill the gaps in areas of interest to the Maryland Biological Stream Survey crews in 2017 (orange areas on map-below). This year, your efforts will be supporting the MBSS by providing data on the effectiveness of various stream restoration projects.
Volunteers are trained and outfitted to collect benthic macroinvertebrate samples which are turned in to DNR biologists who subsample, identify, and rate the sites according to our Index of Biotic Integrity. Stream Waders is rigorous and produces data that are available to the public on the StreamHealth website.
Groups interested in sampling in watersheds not on the map must have a plan to use Stream Waders data in their own programs to conduct stewardship actions or increase community awareness and will supported on a first come, first served basis.
You must provide your name, affiliation, and contact information (including mailing address and email). *You are not officially registered until you receive a registration confirmation email!*
