Volunteer opportunities exist for all ages, interests, and skill levels. A sampling of stream and river related volunteer opportunities are available both within DNR and with organizations that work with DNR on many projects. Check the links here for more information. Stream Waders Volunteers
Since 2000, the Stream Waders Program has worked tirelessly to assist DNR in assessing the health of the freshwater streams in Maryland. Learn more about your waters here.

Noon Seminars
From the Smithsonian to the Galapagos, grab your lunch and watch a presentation about interesting people, places, and conservation around the world. This list is updated all the time, so check back often.

Watershed Associations
There is a good chance a watershed association is working in your area. This is the place to go for information on water monitoring interest groups outside of DNR.
Species Spotlight
- Long-tailed Salamander
The Long-tailed Salamander (Eurycea longicauda longicauda) This salamander is found everywhere in Maryland except the Coastal Plain. It lives up to its name with a tail that makes up more that 50% of its total length.
