The Office for a Sustainable Future (OSF) serves to facilitate, guide and assist
the department in developing and implementing sustainable practices, as well as
coordinating with other state agencies. The office critically examines processes
and systems, rather than programs, in order to streamline current efforts and
develop policies that institute the principles of long-term sustainability.
OSF is intentionally comprised of a very small number of staff, led by David
Goshorn. The staff consists of employees brought together from different
sections of the department with the task of collaborating and focusing their
attention on a wide array of inter-connected issues including climate change,
environmental design, Smart Growth, green infrastructure, green economy, GIS
mapping and BayStat/StateStat. Rather than working exclusively on any one of
these issues, the primary mission of the OSF is to integrate current activities
and goals into sustainable initiatives and policies.
OSF worked with leadership and staff to develop the One DNR Strategic Plan. One
DNR is the framework for a new Departmental Strategic Plan that is moving DNR

Install a rain garden or rain barrel to catch rainwater. Stormwater rushing off of roofs and lawns carries pollution directly into streams and the Bay.
