Beyond BOW - Goose Hunting Clinic & Hunt on
Maryland’s Eastern Shore - Jan. 9-10, 2011
Novice and first time goose hunters joined experience
staff of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Blue
Stem Farms, and Schrader’s Bridgetown Manor for 2 days they
would never forget.
The morning of the first day started out with an
introduction to our venue at Schrader’s Bridgetown Manor,
then a presentation on the history and background of Canada
Goose hunting and management from our Waterfowl Biologist
Larry Hindman. Larry, also representing the Maryland
Waterfowl Association, did a retriever dog demo featuring
Teal, his Labrador retriever. DNR Police Officer Danny
Callahan did an overview of MD and Federal waterfowl laws
and regulations.
The afternoon consisted of personal goose calling lessons
and goose calls from Sean Mann, owner of Sean Mann Outdoors
(the women kept these calls as gifts. Certified shooting
instructors from Schrader’s gave the women shooting lessons
at the wobble traps. The day ended with a segment on
waterfowl hunting safety by MD hunter safety instructor Duke
Johnston.
The second day was pure fun and enjoyment with a full day of
a guided hunt. The women were placed into 5 groups, each
with a guide and a dog. Everyone had an enjoyable time and
we were able to harvest 10 geese. For announcements about
