Delmarva Bays

Delmarva Bays are unique little wetlands found throughout the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake. With variable wet and dry conditions throughout the year, they support unique plant and animal species specially adapted to this variation in moisture, including the grass-pink, striped gentian, and the barking treefrog.

Barking Tree FrogDitching and draining and invasion by non-native plant species have caused changes in hydrology in many of these bays, resulting in the loss of their rare species.

The Landowner Incentive Program is funding control of invasive and woody plants in Delmarva bay wetlands in Caroline, Dorchester, and Queen Anne's Counties.
