Scout Troop 496 erects makes and erects wood duck boxes

On March 11th & 12th, Jimmy Kavanagh and his fellow scouts from Poolesville’s Boy Scout Troop 496 braved the cold weather to complete his Eagle Scout project. The scouts built 12 boxes using MWDI kits and installed them on six properties in the Poolesville area, including wetland areas at the public golf course, Lewis Orchards and NFF Stables.

Jimmy purchased predator guards from the Maryland Waterfowler’s Association thanks to a grant from Fowl Mood, a local organization of duck hunters, who also contributed much appreciated man power to the effort.

The scouts plan to visit the sites later in the spring to measure nesting success and to educate the land owners on future monitoring and upkeep.
