blue_heron.jpgThe Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking public comment on the 15-year vision plan for Cedar Island Wildlife Management Area (WMA). This 3, 081-acre property is located in southwestern Somerset County.

“Public comments on the Cedar Island WMA Vision plan will help wildlife professionals establish a sound management strategy to preserve, protect, enhance, and restore diverse wildlife populations and associated habitats,” said Wildlife and Heritage Service Habitat Biologist and Plan Coordinator, Russ Hill. “We hope that interested hunters, hikers, birdwatchers and other outdoor enthusiasts will take advantage of this chance to review and comment on the vision plan.”

The Cedar Island WMA vision plan was developed to effectively establish long-term goals, maintain and manage public access for outdoor recreation and natural resource protection. Once a plan for the property is devised, the changes and enhancements will be carried out over the next 15 years. The plan addresses conserving, restoring and protecting sensitive wildlife habitats as well as enhancing and creating valuable habitat for game species.

Public comment will be accepted through close of business on March 11, 2016
