Park Equity: What's New

This map was recently updated (2015/2016) and the model was re-run using improved local data, 2010 Census and the 2012 ACS data as well as updated parklands data. Now included in the parks layer are trail heads for access to local trails. This model will be continued to be updated as we receive data from local partners.

Prince Georges County: The Maryland Departmant of Natural Resources has partnered with Prince Georges County to expand the park equity analysis beyond children to define areas where senior citizens( 65+) are “park poor”, as well as areas that are “under canopied” for senior citizens and children. These are areas where there are high concentrations of children or seniors, high poverty and less trees and forests than other parts of the County.
